Get up close and personal with a first look at Battlefield 3′s Close Quarters Expansion Pack

Last week, in San Francisco at the Game Developers Conference DICE & EA demoed their explosive expansion pack Battlefield 3™: Close Quarters to press. First gameplay trailer, first screenshot, and new details below.

With Close Quarters, it looks like they are taking Battlefield 3 in a new direction,  offering players another style of gameplay while still retaining what is uniquely Battlefield. What the journalists at Game Developers Conference could play was a relentless infantry combat map called “Ziba Tower” (internally known simply as “Skybar”).

The  theme in Close Quarters is in the title: The fight moves indoors, and is bringing HD Destruction! While the squad functionality and gunplay will feel instantly recognizable for any Battlefield player, moving the battle to tight maps means it’s instant action and even more frantic than normal.

Boo Yah! Knife to the larynx. NoF Style!

The tight level design and vertical gameplay means death can come from any angle, and the HD Destruction adds a new layer of mayhem to the game. As seen in  the first gameplay trailer from Battlefield 3: Close Quarters above.

This June the expansion pack has the same scope and ambition as Back to Karkand. This means that besides new maps, the expansion pack also offers 10 new weapons that you can bring back to the base game, 10 new Assignments, 5 unique dog tags, new audio, new ways to play, and more.

Battlefield 3: Close Quarters is a themed expansion pack bringing the team play of Battlefield 3 to tight indoor environments. The frantic close quarters infantry combat is amplified by unprecedented high definition destruction, new ways to play, more weapons and added persistence.

In addition to these three expansion packs and the upcoming Spring update, they will be finally adding a much requested feature: a fully integrated rent-a-server program for console players. There will be more details about this program fully later, closer to launch. Need to start putting some money aside for this one fellas smell clan battles in the near future.

  1. Brilliant move here! Now we have a fix for fast-paced, run-and-gun action.. without having to pop in MW3 and dealing with their immature fanboys. ;o)

  2. I’m so excited can’t w8. Really lookin forward to the rent a server feature.

  3. This close quarters package coming out, is it only indoors, are we going to be able to do conquest. seems the only thing they like now they did this shitty patch
